Out Drinking with Nick
“So, let me get this straight,” said Nick. “You now have two of them on the go and somehow this is a problem?”
“Yes.”
“I see.”
“It is, yes.”
“Ha ha,” said Nick. He seemed to be enjoying it.
“So, I have both of them wanting to see me this weekend.”
“Why haven’t you told one about the other.”
“Yes, that is a good question.” It was a good question too. I don’t know why? “I think it is because Matthew thinks he is the only one.”
“Poor Matthew.”
“Well, I don’t know…”
“He’s in for a rude shock.”
“I don’t think any modern gay guy is going to be in for a shock…”
“Seriously? Do you believe that?”
“Well…, er… yes.” Did I believe it?
“What have you told him?”
“Nothing.”
“So, it is lying by omission.”
“I’m not sure I would call it that.”
“So, what would you call it?”
“Bad timing.”
Nick sat back and bought his hand up under his chin and rested his face. He squinted his eyes, for dramatic effect, I am sure. “What must it be like to live in Josh world, I have often wondered?”
“Oh, come on, you are just being a drama queen.”
“Tell that to Matthew.”
“Ah, yes…” I said. “I could…”
“Go on then,” said Nick. “Tell him. And while you are at it, you had better tell James too. Or are you just going to continue assuming James will be perfectly okay with the situation?”
“Well, he…”
“Yes,” said Nick questioningly.
“He…”
“Will be perfectly fine with your lies?”
“I’m not lying to anyone.”
“So, tell me in one sentence what you are doing with these two guys.”
“I’m living my life?”
“Oh, a very nice neutral, non-blame kind of expression,” said Nick. “How is Matt going to react to the news of James in your life?”
