Pippa was over early
"You up for a coffee?" Pippa's voice was shrill as she was the first speaking words for the day, for me.
I grunted at her and turned and walk back up the hallway dressed just in my jocks.
"How are you feeling? First day of holidays?"
I was bonged over. My first weekend off. Holidays. I'd just been reading how English kids in London are effecting Australian accents by coppying their many new Australian friends. Emplyers in London said that had had enough and immitating an Australain's way of speach wouldn't be seen as a good thing from now on. The rise in cadence at the end of everything Pippa said was really grating. How had I never noticed it before?
The truth was that I was. I sat her down in the kitchen and then went and got my dressing gown.
James wandered out in his jocks. "Is the bathroom free?" He looked good standing there in his jocks.
"Hi James."
"Hi Pippa."
It seemed like an odd question. "Is there anybody in there?"
"No."
"Then it is free."
He snorted in derision and then turned and walked away.
"I can see what you see in him, Josh."
"So shallow Pippa. So Shallow."
"The house is so quiet," said Pippa.
"Is Joe away again?"
“It’s Tommy and Nick who I miss.”
“A mum and her boys.”
“It’s just the quiet of the house. You look around at 10pm on a Saturday night and when there is nobody else there, it seems very apparent.
“So you don’t miss Joe.”
“Oh sure,” she laughed. “No. Of course I do. Joe and I will be always, he’s mine. I know he’ll be back, but he has been away so much. But, I don’t care about that, your brother makes me forget what I am missing.”
“Do you think he is having an affair. Joe?”
“I hope he is. He’s got a big cock and he’s a fabulous shag, I hope he’s giving it to someone. And it’s not that I don’t want it from him, but after 25 years. Long service leave. He’s put in a great innings, but maybe I want a new batter and a new bat. Is that terrible?”
“No, not terrible.”
“Have you ever been monogamous?”
“What? No. It’s not the same thing in gay world. I mean, I have. If my boyfriend asked me to go home with him, and I just naturally didn’t want to… I’d know the relationship was in trouble. Yes, I have. And I could be, but what is the point? No one ever really asks me to.”
“And Daniel fulfills that brief admirably… right now. He doesn’t always have to. It doesn’t have to last. There are no strings attached, except promising never to tell Joe.”
“It’s probably better that Tommy and Nick are always out. Better so as not to get caught.”
“It’s like being back in the first years I was with Joe, the sex.” She sipped her coffee, she was very pleased with herself. “I don’t want to get caught. I don’t want to disappoint the boys. How do I explain that I still love Joe and always will, with Daniel it is just the sex? How do I tell them that?”
“You probably want have to.”
“I probably wont have to, you are right.”
“Although, it is like mother like son?”
“What do you mean?”
“Tommy always had the hot’s for Daniel.”
“Don’t say that.”
“When he’d be over here smoking the spliff with me…”
“You gave Tommy pot.”
“You knew that,” I said. “Only when he was 18 and at uni, you understand.”
“I wish I could believe that.”
“And Daniel would walk out here in his jocks, Tommy would have to rush home and whack off.”
“My son has good taste.”
“Just the boys, with half a morning woody…”
“I’ve seen Daniel do that coming out of my en suite in the mornings.”
“It used to get Tommy bothered.”
“It get’s me bothered,” said Pippa. She laughed again. She looked really happy and relaxed and calm and chatty and… and… a changed woman. There she was before me.
