Daniel Continuing
Daniel is still staying with me, it doesn't look like Claire is going to forgive him.
I pushed his coffee towards him.
"I banged a couple of chicks from the office, Claire already knew about them." He shrugged. "So, it wasn't the first time.
"So, you were on your best behaviour then?"
"Short leash."
"And?"
"Well." He shrugged.
His house in Carlton is let out. He's given the tenants orders to vacate, but it takes some time. You know, there's a process, there is a process for everything, hey?
Still, he gets me out running. We pulled on our running shorts after breakfast and met up on the footpath out the front of the house.
The two of us, big bro and little bro pounding the pavement together. It's bonding, boy's stuff. It's been a while since we've done such things together.
Daniel had on tight, footy shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt.
We bumped into my single, white female, suspect, neighbour, Beth. We were bouncing from one foot to the other, as she and I spoke.
She turned her gaze to Daniel. "So, who is this big good looking man."
"This is my brother."
"Daniel Beth, Beth Daniel."
"Well, very nice." Oh, she had that look on her face. She slid her eyes down to his shorts.
"He's gay too."
"Pity," she said. “Both of you?”
"What?"
“Yes,” I said. “A great disappointment for our mother.”
I took Daniel by the arm and lead him away.
"What did you say that for?"
"Oh, keep it in your pants, Daniel. I'm not sure she is, you know, all there. The last thing I need with you..."
"What?" he gasped.
"Let's just get you out of one girl disaster, first, hey?"
“I can look after myself, you know.”
“Yeah, no, clearly you can’t,” I said. “Your current predicament speaks for itself.”
I slapped him on his meaty, straight boy arse. “Move.”
“I…”
“Run.”
We ran up to the Carlton Gardens. We ran around the museum and the Exhibition Buildings. We ran under the arches of trees, we ran across the verdant green lawns.
We puffed and panted. We sweated.
