For The Pain

I'm doing work as a digital image repairer. I have a degree in that too, did you know, it was the first degree for my law degree.

I've been working from home, in the evenings. It is how I fill in the hours instead of wasting my time in front of the teev. I spend a lot of time doing it. I spend hours at the lounge coffee table, sitting on the floor. I'm doing the work for my old friend Carl. I kind of love it, I think it is my favourite thing to do.

I also spend a lot of time doing it, stoned. Do an hour, have a joint. Do another hour, have a joint. I get a lot of work done.

I ran out of pot on Thursday. So, Friday I text Jumbo. No reply Friday, no reply Saturday. Sunday, I got the message, in the country, be home later tonight. That was it, I heard no more. Nothing more Sunday, nothing Monday. That was unlike him, he always replies, he always catches up on his messages and eventually replies. On my way in your direction, are you home? But nothing. I wondered if something had happened.

Today he called. All is alright with the world.

“Well, I met this copper, Sund’y lunch, he pulled me over, and I had a boot full, and I thought it was all over. He wanted to see my license. He wanted to know if that was my current address. He kept asking questions about my address. I thought it was kind of weird, what’s ‘e askin’ all this for, I thought. I tells you I was real slow. He’s standing there being all good looking copper and all. Me sitting and him standing, because I don’t think you are supposed to get out of the car now, I was staring mostly at his blue trousers. He kept askin’ me personal questions until I said to him, ‘ere, we’ll be goin’ on a date next, you know cheeky like. And he smiled and said kind of yeah. He was an alright sort. Anyways, stupid me, the penny finally dropped and all and me and Constable Ryan spent some lovely time together back at my place. And I tell you what, I really dig his truncheon.”

“You picked up a cop on the highway?”

“Yeah, I know. ‘ay.”

Anyway, Saturday I felt a bit off colour, I had a bit of a sore neck. Sunday my neck and shoulder were hurting. And I felt like crap. It is repetitive strain injury, mouse arm, whatever. Usually, I don't feel it because the pot takes the pain away.

The pain has now gone, good old Jumbo. My shoulder hurts if I massage it, but left alone it feels fine.

Wow! I think to myself. Is that pain relief, or addiction? And as we know, weed isn’t addictive, so I have to sing its pain relief qualities.
