Me and The Guys
It was the Saturday night before Xmas, we had a tradition of getting together, at Gordon and Owen’s. Gordon cooks, he always cooks too much.
Nick and Me and Angie, Nick’s sister arrived together. Mike. Gordon and Owen, had some new Greek twink named Demetrius who has major daddy issues, apparently, who they had met at the beach yesterday, his 18th birthday. Bruno and Murray and Jamie, George and Sophie were there. Daniel and Candi came in Daniel’s car. Ben and Amy turned up. Amy seemed to have a girl in toe, Natalie, and she seemed to want to leave Ben with me. Unexpected. Ben and I hadn’t seen each other for a few months, no reason why.
So, then it was Ben and me sitting together, Ben looked at me and smiled, he reached down and squeezed my thigh.
“Here we are.”
“Here we are.”
I got him a cowboy hat, from the top shelf of Gordon’s book case, he looked good in it. Blonde hair, black felt? Is it felt? Black whatever cowboy hats are made from. He looked adorable.
“You look adorable.” I touched his face with my hand, smooth skin, a little stubble.
“Howdy partner,” he said. He reached up and held my hand against his face.
“Ah Ben,” I said. “You look good enough to eat.”
“Eat me then.”
The music was good, we all got up and danced. The back of the house opens up completely to their big yard. It always smells like the sea they are so close to the beach. I danced with Ben, it seemed like he was my date for the evening.
“Hey handsome.”
“You’re handsome.”
We took pills, Bruno provided them, of course. “Here, get these into you,” said Bruno. As an aside, “That Ben sure is a hot boy. Should we give him more.”
“Hands off.”
“Oh, I see,” said Bruno.
Ben washed his down without question, so did I for that matter.
We danced under the fairy lights, Ben and I. Then we sat on the fold up chairs and watched everyone else dance.
Gordon had changed Daniel into a pair of black active wear pants as soon as he and Candi had got there.
“You are a gorgeous blond, my boy,” said Gordon. “You have to dress to show it off.” Good thing Daniel comes fully gay trained, as apparently, Gordon just undid his pants and pulled his baggy jeans off him.
Daniel looked sexy though. And Candy had on the skimpiest slip dress so she and Daniel looked hot together.
Demetrius danced shirtless with his perfect 18 year old body. It was his right of passage, to feel sexy as a gay adult for the first time, getting admiring looks from other men.
“I love you,” said Ben. His big blue eyes reflecting the flames from the brazier.
“You’re sweet, I love you too.”
“No, I love you,” said Ben. “Amy and I have split up… I’m yours.” He smiled self consciously. “Amy says I have always been in love with you… and… and, maybe she is right.”
I was surprised, but I could see he was serious.
“I’ve been thinking about you more and more, lately,” said Ben. “Splitting up with Amy made me think I was free to be with you.”
Ben Harper, I remember thinking. If we got married what name would we use. Grant, or Harper?
“Well? Big guy… that is a lot to take in.” I remember the look on his handsome face, like he was just understanding it too. This was new information for everyone, and when everyone thought about it, everyone seemed to be agreeing. “You and me?”
“Well, it’s not like we haven’t… um… er… test run the idea.”
I couldn’t help but smile. I’ve had a longer, sexual relationship with Ben, than just about any other man.
“Amy said that it has always been you, or her.” He smiled one of his intimate Ben smiles. “So, if it’s not her…” he looked at me. He shrugged and smiled all at the same time, which gave a momentary flicker of joy all around us, like suns would just sparkle where everything is green. “Logically… it’s you.”
I felt a knot in my stomach.
“I think about you all the time now.”
We danced. Our drugs hit us. We kissed. We kissed openly on the dance floor. We hadn’t really done that before, not in front of everyone. Ben the straight boy kissing Josh the gay guy. People looked, sure. It wasn’t every day they see one of their straight mates clearly into another guy, who just happened to be me.
“I was so scared to tell you,” said Ben. “In case you didn’t think the same.” He looked coy. “Do you feel the same? You haven’t said anything?”
“Do I think the same?” My head spun. I have fancied Ben for the longest time, and I’ve wanted him to be mine for just as long. “It’ll be a new relationship.”
“Sure.”
“We’ll have to take it slow.”
“I can take it slow.”
I laughed. “You big dope.”
“You’re a big dope.”
“Are you saying I get to keep you from now on?”
“From this day forward.”
I took him by the hand and led him down to the back of the yard. “You and me.”
“Yes, you and me.”
“We come first.”
“You come first.”
I kissed his soft lips. He kissed me back. We kissed passionately. Stars and moons collided… ha ha, okay, not stars and moons, but the most natural feeling I think I have ever felt. My guy. We kissed some more. He smells good, he tastes good, he feels good, he looks good. And I don’t normally go for blondes.
I led Ben back to the dance floor. We danced. Everybody danced. The music pumped.
Bruno had his hands down Demetrius’s pants, while Murray danced with Jamie. Demetrius soon extracted Bruno’s hand and danced back to Gordon and Owen.
Nick said Bruno was greedy as he had Murray and Owen, an open thruple.
Nick danced with his sister Angie, not at all in the same way George danced with his sister Sophie, no brother and sister dance the way George and Sophie do with each other. Daniel danced with Candi. Gordon had pulled Daniel’s shirt off him during the night, so Daniel danced shirtless. Gordon has always had a thing for Daniel.
Suddenly it was 6am in the morning. Gordan and Owen had gone to bed. Demetrius was probably getting it big time, I thought. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to get Ben home for sex too, for the first time that it may not be a fleeting thing. The first time when he wasn’t somebody else’s and to whom I had to return him.
Something had changed, I could feel it, even if I couldn’t exactly put my finger on it. Ben and me, like it had always been inevitable and now that moment had come. I felt excited and nervous and anxious and kind of a tiny bit shy, like it was all new and we were on our first date.
“Where is Amy?” I asked.
“She says she is going off to find herself,” said Ben. “Or something, I don’t quite understand… with Natalie.”
“Natalie?”
“You know who she…”
“The girl she plays squash with?”
“The one and the same.”
I laughed.
Ben looked at me quizzically.
“A sporty fit lesbian.”
“Yep,” he said.
“Has she moved out?”
“Tonight. Gone,” said Ben. “I have something for you.”
He handed me an envelope. In it was a note, it said… ‘He is a boy with a beautiful heart. Amy.’
“I know that,” I said.
Ben smiled, nervously. “We’ve cried, told each other we’ll always love one another, and now we have split up.” He looked sad. Or was that tired. He’d gone through a lot in these last few days.
I turned Amy’s not over. ‘He’s always been yours, you know that don’t you? Look after him. He’s confused.’
I took Ben’s big, warm hand. “Let’s go home.”
